Speedwell led Alan, Josie and Hotdog along the dimly lit corridors of the HAB, towards 'the chamber of the shiny cages', where Robbins and the Efrafans had locked up their captured companions and left them to die. As they hurried along, he brought Alan up to speed on everything that had happened in his absence.
The day after they had left on their expedition to Efrafa, Derek had returned with the Efrafan does and Silverweed, reporting that the rest of their expedition were safe, but stranded back at Efrafa and that he would be returning to get them. After collecting a fresh supply of propane from the HAB for the balloon, he had left on horseback to return to the landing site, a good distance away, promising to return with the others soon. They never saw Derek again.
Not long after, Woundwort's Owsla, led by the returned-from-dead Robbins, had shown up and attacked the Down in earnest. After a brief battle, the Honeycomb was captured and they were all t

If someone observed Earth from space in the year 2791 A.D., he would have been utterly baffled by the absence of city lights that always shone on the dark side of the planet, as well as from the absence of moving vehicles around the globe, save for a 21st century Twin Otter floatplane flying over what was once Hampshire, England.
It was late afternoon in the new world as Alan's newly-returned party of colonists flew towards their new home. They had made it back through the time warp none the worse for wear; the plane had sustained some minor damage from the fighter plane attack, as well as its disabled right engine, but fortunately they still had enough power left to make it to Watership Down on only one engine. The fighter plane, which had also gone through the warp ahead of them, was nowhere to be seen.
Below them, the endless, paradise-like environment of the future world was completely intact and pristine once again. The destruction caused by Black Inferno

It was late morning when Alan's group of eight arrived at Sutch and Martin's Flight Club. Following Sven's bombing of Hotdog's inn last night, the group had spent the remainder of a restless night in their cars, taking turns standing watch. At first light, they had made for the airstrip, to find their new plane waiting. On the edge of the abandoned airstrip, Alan saw the retrieved wreckage of the Cessna, where a local salvage team had left it after retrieving it from the lake, until it could be examined by forensics and scrapped.
Alan smiled at the sight of their new aircraft, a De Havilland Twin Otter seaplane, formerly a bush plane purchased and refitted by Sergei for private use, which stood parked on the edge of the runway; their ticket to a new life. He turned to his friends, "This is it, lads; in half an hour, we'll all be on our way home!" The rabbits were overwhelmed at the happy thought that they would soon be back in their own world where they

Meanwhile, back on Watership Down, a group of restless giant rabbits were pacing hungrily around, searching for any grass to nibble at in the snow. For a whole day and night, they'd been out in the cold without food or shelter, and were growing sick with worry. What was taking Alan so long? Perhaps Santon had betrayed them and arrested Alan when he was alone, without them around to protect him? Bigwig, in particular, kept threatening to claw Santon's eyes out if he had betrayed them. Although that man had helped them, not to mention having saved his life, Bigwig still didn't trust him one bit.
Before leaving them here the night before, with instructions to stay put and wait, Josie had tended to their injuries. Hazel's torture wounds Samir had inflicted upon him were only marginal, nothing some rest couldn't fix. Hawkbit's scalp injury would take some time to heal and would almost certainly leave a scar, but otherwise the blackish buck hadn't suffered any perm
